Yarn Wrap Workshop
Thursday July 23rd 2026 2-4pm
Saturday August 8th 2026 1-3pm
Saturday September 19th 1-3pm
Introduction to weaving workshop
Discover the art of simple weaving in this relaxed, hands-on yarn wrap workshop. This class introduces the fundamentals of warp and weft weaving, using beautiful Shetland wool and upcycled hardwood blocks to create striking woven artworks full of colour, texture, and character.
You’ll learn how to build a warp by wrapping yarn around a handcrafted wooden block, before exploring how weft threads are woven across the surface to create layered bands of colour and pattern. Through guided making, you’ll gain an understanding of weaving structure while enjoying the freedom to experiment with your own creative choices.
During the workshop, you’ll be guided through three core weaving techniques:
Warp Wrapping
Learn how to create the foundation of your piece by wrapping yarn around a block of upcycled hardwood, establishing colour placement, rhythm, and structure.
Weft Weaving
Explore how weft threads are introduced across the warp to build texture, contrast, and blocks of colour, transforming simple materials into a richly layered composition.
Plain Weave Technique
Discover the traditional plain weave method, learning how over-and-under weaving can add depth, variation, and extra visual interest to your finished piece.
This workshop is suitable for beginners, offering a calm and creative introduction to weaving, colour play, and mindful making.
This workshop includes
Guided instruction in warp wrapping, weft weaving, and plain weave techniques
Use of beautiful Shetland wool in a curated range of colours
An upcycled hardwood weaving block to create your artwork on
All materials and tools provided during the workshop
Tea, coffee, and homemade cake
By the end of the workshop, you’ll leave with a unique handcrafted woven artwork ready to gift or display at home.
