This relaxed and playful workshop introduces you to contemporary hand embroidery, focusing on decorative stitch techniques that can be used to embellish everyday textiles. Designed as a gentle mindful introduction to stitch, this class encourages slow making, experimentation and creative confidence.

Working with beautiful linens and cottons you’ll be guided through a selection of essential hand stitch techniques, including cross stitch, stem stitch, satin stitch, couching, fly and running stitch. Through guided practise and creative play you’ll learn how to combine stitches, explore colour and develop your own decorative style.

With encouragement and support throughout the session you’ll design and embroider your own linen napkin, creating a final piece that’s both practical and personal. This workshop is suitable for anyone looking to reconnect with stitch in a calm welcoming environment.

This workshop includes

  • Step by step guidance in five decorative hand stitch techniques.

  • Threads, fabric and a linen napkin.

  • Use of embroidery tools during the workshop.

  • Tea, coffee and homemade cake.

By the end of the session you’ll leave with a beautifully stitched napkin and the skills and confidence to continue decorating textiles at home.

I spent wonderful 3 hours sewing with Lisa. I learn’t 3 new stitches and, best of all, she taught me some of her beautiful graphic designs. She was so very generous with her ideas and a very patient teacher. And there was delicious lemon drizzle cake!

I loved this course. Fun and friendly and relaxing. I am a beginner but learnt a lot of creative ways of using different types of embroidery stitches. It's also a lot easier to create lovely pieces of embroidery than I initially realised. "

Lisa was such an inspirational, patient tutor. I thoroughly enjoyed learning a few basic stitches on linen with beautiful coloured threads and I think I might be hooked. The venue was quirky and the company a delight. A wonderful way to spend a morning. I would definitely like to continue regular tuition and have been practising my new stitches ever since. Many thanks. "
