Join us at Stowe House for an afternoon of Creative Stitch and Mend, Sunday 14th December 1-4pm
£45
Join us at the beautiful and historic Stowe House in Buckinghamshire for a creative mending workshop.
As Winter arrives, it’s the perfect time to start mending our well-loved clothes. We often can’t bear to part with a cherished jumper, scarf or blanket, so a little stitch used to mend becomes part of its story. In fact, mending can even add beauty, a hand stitched woven patch can become part of your clothes character.
The workshop is suitable for all ages and levels of experience all you need is something to be mended. Don’t worry if you don’t have anything, we can supply you with wool samples to learn the techniques on.
During this workshop you will learn;
Darning: Use darning wools and other natural yarns from our collection. Learn basket stitch to create a weave like structure over the hole using warp and weft threads. Choose contrasting colours to create bold checks and stripes or create geometric shapes and graphic patterns to transform and repair your knitwear.
Visible Mending: Running stitch or Sashiko, translated as little stabs in Japan for reinforcing fine and thinning fabric. This technique is also used in conjunction with basket stitch to create a stable mend.
All tools and mending materials will be provided for use in this workshop.
Tea , coffee and homemade cake will be served to keep you fuelled while you mend.
The workshop is suitable for all ages and levels of experience.
This season, trade the impulse to buy for the urge to mend and cherish what you have. Let repairing become part of your wardrobes story.
Booking available here via www.stowehouse.org
